Become a Keystone volunteer — have fun while making a real difference in the lives of people in our community. The process of becoming a Keystone volunteer involves an application and interview with the volunteer coordinator. A criminal background check is also conducted. New volunteers receive an orientation and all volunteers are supervised by Keystone professional staff. KEYSTONE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNTIES
FOODSHELVES — Volunteers sort donations, stock shelves and assist clients. Volunteers should be at least 16 years old, capable of lifting 20 pounds, and able to commit to one 3.5 hour volunteer shift per week. Shifts are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Our Food Shelf locations are:
- Midway Food Shelf - 1916 University Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55104
- Rice Street Food Shelf - 1459 Rice Street, Suite 3, St. Paul, MN 55117
- Roseville Food Shelf - 2833 North Hamline Avenue, Roseville, MN 55113
FOODMOBILE — You can help with our mobile food distribution happening throughout St. Paul. Volunteers can help stock the Foodmobile, serve clients at distribution events, or promote the program doing outreach and communication work. We are seeking individual volunteers who can make an ongoing commitment to helping at least once per month for 3-4 hours. Schedules and shifts vary and are flexible. MEALS ON WHEELS — Volunteers deliver noon meals to homebound elderly and disabled residents in Keystone’s service area. A car, valid driver’s license and current auto insurance are required. Volunteers may drive once a week, every other week, or once a month, depending on their availability. Volunteer may also help in the kitchen preparing the meals earlier in the morning. Meals on Wheels delivery locations are at the Merriam Park Community Center (2000 St. Anthony Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55104) and the West 7th Community Center (265 Oneida Street, St. Paul, MN 55102)
ACTIVE SENIORS — Volunteer opportunities in Keystone’s Active Seniors Program include peer counseling for homebound seniors, planning programs for active seniors, and assisting with parties, mailings and other duties.
TRANSPORTATION DRIVER — Volunteers transport seniors to critical medical appointments. Schedule varies.
YOUTH PROGRAM — Volunteers provide homework help, basic tutoring and reading skills for elementary school age youth in our program. Volunteers can also serve as classroom assistants and help with enrichment activities. Keystone offers two youth programs that rely on volunteer engagement:
- The Hmong Youth and Family Program. This program occurs at the McDonough Homes Community Center (located at 1544 Timberlake Road, St. Paul, MN 55117), Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
- Community Kids Program. This program occurs at the West 7th Community Center (located at 265 Oneida Street, St. Paul, MN 55102), Monday - Friday 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
SEASONAL OR OCCASIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:
School supply drive: Volunteers prepare donated back-to-school supplies for distribution to K-12 students.Program happens in August.
Gifts of Hope: This holiday program matches volunteer sponsors with low-income families. Sponsors purchase helpful items for the family or help wrap holiday gifts for families. Program runs in November - December.
Fare for All: Provide low-cost food items at the West 7th Community Center. Occurs the first Friday of every month.
OFFICE VOLUNTEER — Volunteers assist with a variety of office duties, including data entry, photocopying and correspondence.
COORDINATE A DRIVE TO SUPPORT OUR PROGRAMS — In-kind donations are always welcome and appreciated within Keystone's programs.
